Whitley Bay TSA

Whitley Bay High School is the lead school in a Cohort 1 Teaching School Alliance (TSA). We were awarded the status in July 2011 - one of the first 56 secondary schools nationally - in recognition of the outstanding teaching, learning and training in the school.

There are 4 parts to our Teaching School.

In our most recent inspection, Ofsted reported that ‘teachers are committed to improving their craft as professionals, and this leads to an excellent level of consistency in the quality of teaching’.  We are well known for our innovative professional development for teachers within school and also the training we lead regionally, nationally and globally. Believing that schools are infinitely improvable our mission is to provide exciting, timely, relevant and supportive training for teachers, support staff and leaders throughout their careers; if schools are to continue to raise achievement it is vital that staff maintain high levels of enthusiasm, professionalism and wellbeing.

Steve Wilson, Headteacher, values the huge benefits that TSA partnership working have brought:  “Whitley Bay has always been an outward facing school with many informal partnerships in all phases. Teaching School status has allowed us to build on the strong, trusting relationships we already have by forging new strategic alliances further afield.”

Whitley Bay High Teaching School Alliance works closely with a wide range of partners including 19 schools, HEI’s, North Tyneside Learning Trust, North Tyneside and Northumberland LAs and the North East Teaching Schools Alliance.
