The Hermitage Academy is very proud to have been designated as one of the cohort three teaching schools in the country. We are an 11-18 Academy with 1080 students based in Chester-le-Street, County Durham. For the last five years, we have been working within our local area to facilitate school improvement. Now, as a teaching school we are able to take a leading role in the professional development of teachers, support staff and headteachers further afield.
As well as offering training, we try to coordinate expertise in partner schools, thereby using the best leaders and teachers to lead learning and provide school-to-school support within our community.
The Hermitage Academy is also a partner in the Shotton Hall Teaching School Alliance. The strategic partners within our alliance at secondary level include Parkside Academy, Belmont and Bishop Barrington School in Durham along with Biddick Academy in Sunderland. Our primary partners include Newker Primary and Red Rose Primary. We have many other partner schools and links from around the country. If you are interested in developing links further please don't hesitate to contact us.
